How much demand is there for property investment in the UK at present? And which are the most popular places across the country to purchase real estate?
These are important questions for property investors. As a leading bridging loan provider, we always discuss such topics with brokers and clients. That is why we have carried out new research to provide the answers.
Property investment in 2020
Property has been a desirable asset for many decades. This is due to its ability to deliver capital growth as well as rental returns.
However, over the past decade the UK has been gripped by political uncertainty. The country has witnessed four general elections and Brexit. It begs the question: does property investment hold the same appeal it once did?
In January 2020 we surveyed over 750 UK real estate investors to find out. All of the respondents own three or more residential properties across Britain and Northern Ireland.
So, what did we find?
In short, demand for UK property investment remains very high.
A massive 79% of property investors intend to buy more property in 2020, with only 5% planning to downsize their real estate portfolio. What’s more, 60% are confident house prices will rise in 2020.
The majority of investors clearly still have faith in bricks and mortar. Our research shows they are keen to purchase more properties in 2020. But which regions are attracting the most interest?
For those planning to invest in property in 2020, 35% are looking to London. While the capital ranks as the top destination for UK real estate investment, we also found growing interest in the country’s regional hotspots. A fifth (19%) of investors are looking to the East of England, followed by the Midlands (16%) and the North West (13%).

Access to finance
Not having the funds to hand in order to complete on a property purchase puts a halt to any deal. That’s why having access to fast finance is essential.
For this reason, alternative finance solutions such as bridging loans have become far more popular among property investors. They can be delivered quickly and tailored to the needs of the borrower.
