The UK is renowned as a nation with a love of buying property. Unlike many countries where a lifetime of renting is considered the norm, across Britain people aspire to own bricks and mortar. Indeed, that is one of the reasons that alternative finance markets such as fast bridging loans have become increasingly popular over the past decade.
The result of this affinity for purchasing real estate is that the UK has a consistently competitive property market, with first-time buyers, existing homeowners and buy-to-let investors all keen to take advantage of opportunities that present themselves. However, with demand outweighing supply, many people – particularly those who cannot access the required finance quickly enough – are struggling to complete on purchases.
It is an ever-present issue reported in the news, with the need to improve the housing supply a key focus for the Government. Indeed, last month the Conservative Party undertook a Cabinet reshuffle, with Theresa May’s hand forced by some Brexit-related resignations – the result was that Kit Malthouse was appointed to the position of Housing Minister, becoming the 17th different person to hold this title since the year 2000.
In light of this appointment, and in reaction to the on-going discussion about how to open more people up to the opportunities on offer through bricks and mortar investment, Market Financial Solutions recently commissioned an independent survey among more than 2,000 UK adults. We asked the respondents about the new initiatives or reforms they would most like to see implemented by the Government to help improve the property sector, ranging from tax legislation to construction policy.
Our timely research certainly caught the attention of both the national and trade press; you can find out more about MFS’ latest research within leading finance and property titles, including: FT Adviser, Property Wire, MoneyWise, Your Mortgage and Property Reporter.
